Why does active energy show 0 kcal?
Steps and active energy arrive separately from Apple Health, so one can be present while the other is missing today.
What this means in Health Island
If Apple Health provides no active energy for today, Health Island shows 0 kcal. Your steps still count, existing finds remain, and only changes that require active energy wait for new data. Health Island never invents a calorie value.
Check Apple Health first
- Open Health and choose Browse → Activity → Active Energy.
- Check whether today has an entry.
- If Health also has no value, Health Island cannot read one. If a value is present, reopen Health Island and retry.
Check your iPhone
- Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Motion & Fitness and enable Fitness Tracking.
- Open Fitness and make sure your activity rings are set up and not paused.
- In Health, check that age, height and weight under Health Details are current; Apple uses these for estimates.
- Carry your iPhone so its motion sensors can record activity.
If you use Apple Watch
Apple Watch records active energy while worn. If it is paired but not on your wrist, iPhone steps may still exist while active energy does not. Wear it unlocked with sensor contact, enable Fitness Tracking in Watch privacy settings and check that recent records arrive in Health.
Check Health Island access
Open Health → profile picture → Privacy → Apps → Health Island. Read access for Steps and Active Energy should be on. A green switch does not guarantee that today has a recorded value. See the full Apple Health guide.
If Apple Health has a value but Health Island does not
Retry the read in Health Island. If it remains at 0 kcal, send feedback with app and device details, but no health values or sensitive screenshot content.
